Vacation cut short after burglary
A Ballard couple had to cut their vacation short after a burglar broke into their home on the 8300 block of 29th Avenue NW. On June 1 police arrived on the scene after someone reported a neighbor’s home was burglarized. The complainant told police that she was watching over her neighbor’s home while they were on vacation. She went to water the plants and noticed the back door was standing open and the locks were on the floor. The door had been forced open with a pry bar. There was a towel on the motion light on the porch. Rooms were rummaged through and jewelry boxes were disturbed . Police believe jewelry was taken but there was no way to know for sure because the residents were not there to confirm. The neighbor said that the couple decided to cut their vacation short and were on their way home. The neighbor told officers that the son of the couple was on his way to secure the door. Police found no latent fingerprints.

When beers go bad: Man riots against beer at QFC
Police arrested a man outside the Ballard QFC (5700 block of 24th Avenue NW) on June 2 after he knocked over numerous cases of root beer and Rainier beer in the warehouse section of the store. When police arrived they found QFC employees holding down the suspect. The suspect was bleeding and complained of back pain. Police apprehended the suspect and paramedics treated his injuries. Employees said that the suspect broke root beer bottles in the soda aisle, and then went to the warehouse area of the store and kicked over cases of beer. Before employees could respond, the suspect went outside and threw metal chairs around the dining area. Two employees tackled the man and held him down until police arrived. Police took the suspect to the North Precinct. While in the holding cell the man urinated in his pants, took them off and told police to burn them. He then relentlessly “mule kicked” the cell door and refused to leave the cell when police tried to transport him to King County Jail. Officers calmed the man down, and he was later booked at KCJ for property damage. The value of the beer was $191.13.
