The Psychic View – Lea and Me

One facet of our life journey is the unique associations we make along the way. Some strike me as ‘preordained,’ possessing a far-reaching resonance and the potential to alter us in myriad ways.
I have been fortunate to have a number of such people in my life. One particular connection I’ll reflect upon here concerns my god-daughter, Lea; now a gorgeous eighteen; a gifted artist with a loving heart. I met her father, Dilip, years ago, while wandering across Asia. The nineteen-year-old Swiss traveler and I crossed paths in Kathmandu, and though having little in common superficially, we immediately hit it off, trekking the Himalayas together, then heading for Burma and Thailand, where we went our separate ways. In a time before email, we managed to stay in touch, knowing our rapport was a rare thing.
Some years later, Dilip married Carole. Six months after welcoming their first daughter, Meera, Dilip phoned to report that his parents were visiting Seattle and wanted to meet me. Of course, I agreed.
Though his father, ‘Rajiv’ seemed friendly enough, his mother, ‘Anna’ struck me as annoying and pushy. Within 2 minutes of meeting, she tauntingly challenged me to ‘say something psychic’…having heard of my abilities from her son. Though I politely demurred, she repeated her demand four or five times within the next half hour. Thoroughly exasperated, I nonetheless…unwilling…DID receive a ‘psychic message’ and decided to pass it on – her son and daughter-in-law were already expecting another baby. Anna vehemently denied it. She’d spoken with them the previous night, and they surely would have shared such news. The reason for that, I explained, was that they did not yet know! As it later turned out, I was quite correct…Carole was only 10 days pregnant at the time of my "revelation."
Soon, a dumbfounded Dilip decreed I must be named god-mother to the coming child, since I was the first to perceive she was to enter the world. (Upon reflection, had ‘Anna’ not proved so aggravating, I would not have been forced into my ‘psychic declaration,’ and thus would not have been offered the role of god-mother…so things DO work in mysterious ways). Of course, I was honored.
It was not until Lea was a year old that I finally visited Switzerland to attend the baptism. I met Carole for the first time, and the rich, mysterious connection I felt with her husband immediately blossomed between us as well. I adored Lea on sight, as I did her older sister Meera, and later, their youngest girl, Tara. I am invited to visit yearly and it enchanting beyond description to be with them. We all share an affinity that is as powerful as it is inexplicable.
On my most recent visit, I was recounting my two past lives – one, in ancient Egypt…the other, as a victim of the Holocaust. While also claiming an affinity to Ancient Egypt, Lea stunned me by revealing that as a child, she had been tormented by repeated nightmares of Nazis pursuing her. Her mother confirmed this to be true. Since Lea is a teenager, born long after the war, and has no Jewish ancestry, it is indeed an odd subject to plague her. Did we know one another during World War Two? Did we separately meet a similar fate? I have no definitive answer. But certainly, we share a past, present, and future, forming a mystical tapestry, which includes others as well, that will continue to influence and sustain us in unnamable ways and through innumerable lifetimes.
