Prowler scared off by building caretaker
A building maintenance person at an apartment complex on the 2200 block of NW 58th Street, chased off a prowler on Sept. 11. The building caretaker called police to the scene, and he told them that the suspect was trying to pry open a door that led to the secure parking lot. The suspect fled as soon as he saw the caretaker. The suspect had been seen at the building before. On one occasion he told the caretaker that he had accidentally parked his car in the parking lot. Police gathered security footage that showed the suspect loitering in front of the door before attempting to pry it open with a pry bar.
Rash of car break-ins, power saw stolen
Police are looking for a prowler who perpetrated a rash of car break-ins at the 1100 block of Ninth Avenue NW on Sept. 8. Police were called to a home where residents told them that someone had broken into their garage and three vehicles on the property. That morning the complainant went to the detached garage where he parked his car. In the vehicle he noticed his ashtray was pulled out. He didn’t smoke so he thought this was strange. Then he noticed his car had been rifled through. He checked his wife’s car and noticed there were things askew. His parents were visiting from Canada and their car was also broken into. He also noticed a power saw taken from his garage. He recalled his dog barking the night before, but at the time he thought nothing of it. No fingerprints were recovered.
Burglar pushes through AC unit, scared off by alarm
A burglar was scared off by an alarm after attempting to break into the second floor of a home located on the 8500 block of Eighth Avenue NW on Sept. 8. Police were dispatched to the home after an alarm was reported. At the front of the home police found a ladder leading up to a second story window. The suspect pushed an air conditioning unit through the window but failed to gain access after the alarm sounded. A fingerprint was recovered from the window frame. Police remained at the scene until the owner arrived.
