Police piece together convoluted night of crime activity linked to one suspect
Seattle police are looking for an armed male suspect after he was involved in multiple incidences in Ballard involving armed robbery, car theft and a car accident. Officers were first dispatched to an apartment complex on the 1700 block of NW 57th Street on Sept. 17 after a victim reported his 1998 white Subaru Outback was stolen. The victim said that he was loading belongings into his vehicle when a white male in his 20s approached him. The victim said the man had blood coming from his earlobe and scrapes on his face. The suspect asked the victim for a ride to the University District, but the victim declined and continued loading his vehicle as the suspect walked away. Later the suspect returned and pointed a revolver handgun at the victim and demanded the keys. The victim handed them over, but asked the suspect if he could gather some things from the vehicle before the suspect left. The suspect assisted the victim by handing over a passport and other personal items from the glove box. Then the suspect drove off. The victim described the suspect as “really desperate.” Police scoured the area and did not find the vehicle.
Later, police received a call from a dispatcher who said that a man reported giving a ride to an individual with a description that matched the suspect’s. The man said he had heard something in the bushes outside his home and then a young man appeared who said he was involved in a bicycle accident. He said that he needed a ride to the emergency room at Swedish Hospital. The man gave the suspect a ride, but when they arrived at the hospital the suspect ran toward Ballard Blossom on NW Market Street. The man said the suspect was “out of it” and smelled of alcohol. The man went home and called police.
Meanwhile, officers discovered that prior to both incidences there was a traffic accident involving a stolen car and a suspect-driver who matched the description of the suspect. The victim-driver said that the suspect sustained injuries to his face in the accident, but ran from the scene. Police believe the suspect was involved in all three incidences.
Chocolate milk thief assaults prevention officer with stolen goods
Police are looking for a milk thief after he stole a carton of milk and assaulted a prevention officer with it at a convenient store on the 1400 block of NW 56th Street on Sept. 17. Police were dispatched to the store and spoke with the PO. He told them that the suspect entered the store, grabbed a carton of chocolate milk and left without paying. The PO told the suspect to stop. The suspect threw the milk at him. It struck the PO in the chest. The suspect turned to run and the PO managed to grab the bag the suspect was carrying. Inside the bag was an ID card. Both the teller and the PO believed the picture in the ID looked like the suspect. Police went to address listed on the ID and made contact with the owner. He said he was at work all day and nowhere near Ballard during the time of the incident.
