Suspects steals clubs, tees off toward neighbor’s house
A man was arrested on Jan. 19 after he stole a set of golf clubs from his neighbor’s garage located on the 800 block of 24th Avenue N.W. Police were called after the neighbor discovered his garage had been broken into. He said his golf clubs were missing. The man told police that he thought his neighbor was the burglar; the suspect had tried to force his way into the complainant’s house earlier that day. Later the suspect was seen hitting golf balls toward the complainant’s house. Police went to talk to the neighbor, but he wasn’t home. They checked the back alley and found a man matching the description. He was apprehended. Police spoke with the man’s mother by phone, and she told them that her son made a statement about identifying with how the Menendez Brothers must have felt (brothers who murdered their parents). She advised police to have a mental health professional evaluate her son. While transporting the suspect to the North Precinct music was played “because it helped to soothe his demeanor,” according to the police report. The tactic was also used while the suspect was being detained. A mental health court referral was requested on his booking form. He was booked at King County Jail for investigation of burglary. Police later recovered the golf clubs and returned them to the complainant.
