Woman missing $7,000 in jewelry
A Ballard woman is missing jewelry after a burglary occurred at her home located on the 1000 block of Eighth Avenue N.W. on Feb. 3. The complainant called police after she came home and noticed lights on in her office. A drawer was slightly opened and she reported jewelry was missing. She checked her room and noticed her closet door was ajar by one inch. She said the always left if completely closed. Also the complainant said her bedside table was rifled through because she leaves it completely closed but it moved slightly to the touch. She said her friend has a spare key to her home and that she would be calling about the key the next day. Police were unable to recover any fingerprints.
Ballard man fights off burglar with garden sheers
A Ballard man fought off a burglar with garden sheers at his home on the 6200 block of Fourth Avenue N.W. on Feb. 2. The complainant told police that he was working from home when he heard a knock at the door. He was busy and didn’t answer. A few minutes later he saw a suspect he described as a white male in his 30s about six feet tall and bald. The suspect wore a black jacket and black boots. The complainant watched the suspect break into to his garage through a window. He called police. Then he heard more glass breaking from the backside of his home. He exited through the front door and went around back. He found his laundry room door broken through and the suspect inside his home wielding a pair if garden sheers. The suspect took the sheers from the garage. The complainant surprised the suspect. He held the sheers in a threatening way toward the complainant. The complaint wrestled the sheers away from the suspect and struck him with the sheers and punched him in the head. The suspect fled through the house and exited through the front door. The complainant followed. The complainant was still speaking to police with his cell phone as he chased the suspect. He lost the suspect for a moment but then saw him coming toward him down the driveway riding the complainant’s girlfriend’s bicycle. It was secured to the side of the garage but the suspect tore it away. The suspect fled to the street and the complainant followed him in his car. Four blocks later police apprehended the suspect. The complainant made a positive I.D. Seattle Fire Department treated the suspect at the scene. He had abrasions and swelling to his head and hands. He was booked at King County Jail for Investigation of Burglary. The estimated damage to the complainant’s home was $1,500.
