Home burglarized after mother rushed to hospital
A burglary occurred at a home located on the 6700 block of Fifth Avenue N.W. on March 31 after the resident took her mother to the emergency room. The complainant told police that she returned home to find her front door open. She looked in the house and found a few jewelry boxes opened land ying on the floor of her mother’s room. Police checked the basement door and found that it had been kicked in; police observed the doorframe was damaged. There were no fingerprints recovered from the scene. Police estimate the value of the stolen items to be near $500.
Suspect arrested after taking decoy booty and checks
A suspect was arrested in Renton after he attempted to cash stolen checks from a business located on the 8000 block of 15th Avenue N.W. in Ballard. The complainant called police after he found his business rifled through. He noticed that the back window that led to a bathroom had been broken. There was dirt on the toilet under the window where the suspect crawled in. The suspect took a bag marked "24 Karat" which contained fake gold and another bag marked "Diamonds" which contained cubic zirconia. The business owner told police he kept the mock valuables as decoys in case of a burglary. The suspect also took business checks and later tried to cash a $2,000 check at a store in Renton. The store employee was suspicious of the amount and of the suspect and called the business owner. The complainant reported the checks stolen and police were notified. They later arrested the man and made contact with Seattle Police Department. There were no fingerprints or security footage found at the scene.
Woman missing 30-year-old engagement ring after burglary
Police responded to a burglary at a home on the 1000 block of Valmay Avenue N.W. on April 2. The complainant told them that she returned home and noticed some lights were on in her home. She had shut everything off before she left. She went to her neighbor’s house and called police. Officers cleared the home. The complainant reported her 30-year-old engagement ring missing along with other jewelry and a credit card. Her husband called to cancel the card and the credit card company revealed that the card had been used at a Conoco 76 gas station in Shoreline. No fingerprints were discovered at the scene.
