Seattle Police Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) are investigating a fatal collision that killed one man early Sunday morning in Ballard.

Shortly before 2:00 AM, officers responded to a report of a two car, head-on collision near NW 55th Street and NW Market Street. The first vehicle was occupied by a driver and passenger, while the second vehicle was occupied by a lone driver.

The passenger in the first vehicle, a 34-year-old man, sustained critical injuries during the crash and was transported to Harborview, where he later died from his injuries.

Police evaluated the 22-year-old male driver of the first vehicle, and found signs of impairment. He was arrested and taken to Harborview for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. He will booked into the King County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide upon his release from the hospital.

The driver in the second vehicle was not seriously injured in the crash.

TCIS detectives responded to the scene and are investigating.
