Edward John Jacobsen

Edward John Jacobsen, a longtime citizen of Ballard died of cancer on May 3, 2017. Also known as "Bus", he died at home just 50 feet from where he was born on June 28, 1922, on property owned by the family since 1918. Ed is predeceased by his parents John and Coralie, an older sister Eleanor, and younger brother Robert. Ed and his brother designed, built and raced outboard hydroplanes on many lakes and sloughs in the Northwest. He built his own home next to his parent's home.
After graduating Ballard High School in 1941, he worked for Boeing before entering the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point on Long Island. He finished WWII as a 2nd Assistant Engineer. Although he stayed home to help raise 4 children, in 1966 he went back to sea to support American troops in Vietnam. After the war he continued to sail, retiring in 1990 as Chief Engineer from the LNG TAURUS.
Ed married Dorothy Hundertmark, his high school sweetheart. They raised 4 children Jana Schneider (John), Kurt (Perdis), John Jay (Marilyn), and Lisa (Richard Qually), 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He and Dorothy traveled the world. They belonged to Titanic clubs, enjoying that historical phenomenon. He was interested in everything, and you could always find him with a book, magazine or newspaper in his hand.
A Celebration of Life will be held June 28, 2017 at the Ballard Elks from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm.
