The Washington Music Educators Association will honor Ballard High Choir Director Courtney Rowley with the Elliott Bay Music Educator Association (EBMEA) Outstanding Educator award on February 17 at the state conference. This award reflects Ms. Rowley’s outstanding choral program, her passion for choral education and students, and her leadership in music education in the community.
As president of the EBMEA for the past three years, Ms. Rowley helped to build the Puget Sound region’s involvement in the program, including organizing Solo and Ensemble and the annual Northwest Region Choir Showcase for Northwest-area schools that features combined performances by local elementary, middle and high school choirs. Groups in her choir program have performed at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, and her Concert Choir was selected to perform at the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Northwest Conference in Seattle in 2014.
This award will be presented at the same conference at which the Ballard High School Wind Ensemble will perform. It is the first time that a Seattle Public School High School Wind Ensemble or Concert Band has been invited to perform at this highly competitive event, which draws applications from schools throughout the state.
