Officers arrest Ballard burglar
North Precinct officers arrested a burglar after tracking him around Ballard early Friday morning, Feb. 23. Police responded to a report of a burglar inside a detached garage at a house under construction in the 800 block of NW 67th St. around 5:00 a.m. The homeowner was several blocks away and watched the suspect on a surveillance camera. When officers arrived, they found the suspect fleeing the area on foot. The suspect managed to elude officers by running in between houses, over a fence and into a pond. Later, officers later spotted an occupied, suspicious vehicle parked nearby and kept it under observation, believing that it may have been an accomplice acting as a lookout. Officers contacted the occupant in the driver’s seat and identified him after he denied any involvement. Then, the suspect returned to the area and got into the vehicle.
Officers stopped the vehicle, which was driving away near the intersection of 11th Ave NW and NW 70th St. The suspected burglar was discovered hiding in the back of the vehicle under some blankets. The 32-year-old man was arrested for the burglary and was later booked into the King County Jail. The driver of the vehicle was identified and released. Detectives from the Major Crimes Task Force will handle the follow up investigation.
Commercial burglary on Valentine’s Day
An alarm at a commercial building located in the 1500 block of Ballard Ave NW was tripped around 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14. When police arrived at 4:15 a.m., they found the door was damaged and open. None of the merchandise in the store seemed disturbed, nor did the register. Officers searched for prints but were unable to find any. The business owner did not want to come to meet the police. Officers secured the front door and left information for follow-up with the victim.
Burglarized while attending a wedding
A man residing in the 300 block of NW 80th St. called police around 9:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13 to report that his detached garage was entered without permission. While he was away attending a wedding, a burglar took tools, a case of Mountain Dew and money from the structure. The victim had a security camera, which captured footage of a suspect in the backyard. The suspect was wearing a jacket and a backpack.
Television thief on 1 Ave NW
Around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14, officers arrived in the 9200 block of 1 Ave NW to investigate a burglary. The victim said there was no sign of forced entry to her house, but that the television was stolen. Nothing else seemed damaged or disturbed. She knew something was wrong when she arrived home and found the front door unlocked.
