To the editor:
I am on Next-door app as a resident of West Seattle. Someone on comment mentioned that you would be interested in hearing the views of people who violate dog leash laws on Alki Beach/Lincoln Park. If this is true, please read my comments on the subject.
There is so much controversy over dogs on beaches and people walking their dogs without leashes right on the water. I understand it is illegal and can result in a fine as high as $500. I am a long time resident of West Seattle and a dog owner. I never take my dog down on Alki Beach or Lincoln Beaches because of this law, however, I am sad that West Seattle, with all its residents who own dogs, do not have a designated area on one of the secluded beaches along the shorelines. North end of Lincoln Park would be ideal, away from automobiles or children playing. I am talking about the area south of the homes as you enter Lincoln Park from the lower north end. I do understand the safety issues involved with dogs wandering around or running on Alki beach due to traffic being so close or small children playing in the areas.
Currently we have to drive a great distance, even more so with the loss of our West Seattle bridge to take our dogs to walk on the beach, swim, run and play at designated dog parks. There is a hugs section on Parks and Recreation on Rules for dogs. There is nothing in there about environmental issues regarding dog waste but people should pick up after their dogs. I understand the concerns from some people but there are dog parks on the water in Redmond and off Lake Washington in Mercer Island where dogs are allowed to swim in the waters and I’m sure waste goes into the water. There is the dog park in Madison Park also on the water. Whidbey Island has a dog park right on the beach. I believe Burien allows dogs on the beach but not without a leash. Many people claim dogs on the beaches pollute our waters and that it’s bad for seals. What pollutes our waters is plastic and garbage. I don’t believe at all that this is an environmental issue but more of a safety issue.
Can something be done here in West Seattle? I would love to hear your thoughts and that perhaps we need more education in Seattle so people can stop policing others and allow law enforcement to do their jobs.
Thank you.

After my experience yesterday, getting yelled at in front of tons of people ( yes I recorded some of the guys 12 minute rant to me ) I am sorry dog owners who dont get it. In 6 years living on Alki I have never been talked to like that
In fact I honestly don't think anybody's ever talk to me like that because the guy started insulting me from head to toe. I was wearing a $200 Lululemon dress and $20 Target yoga pants underneath and size 9 Adidas flip-flops because I just had foot surgery this last year and my left foot is still too swollen to wear most regular shoes I'm in chronic pain all the time both my knees are bone-on-bone so I can't wear a lot of regular pants but at 51 years old my appearance isn't really anybody else's business I'm clean I'm polite I'm known for having this wacky sense of humor my website has what's known as kind of my alter-ego this monkey named Sancho. I build my website in 2012 I started filming bands doing live streaming since back then before it was even free on Facebook because my then BF who Ive known 30 years owns a livestream company so he built a designated live streaming window for my website. This website is not monetized out of choice I actually get emails from Google AdSense all the time but I don't want people to go there to be suckered into ads. I had to file for unemployment this year and the guy who is looking at my website just out of happenstance you saw my business card with the monkey on it and said it was this and he teaches classes on branding and media etc. At the time I still own house cleaning business which was very successful good because of my physical pain I decided I just didn't want to do it anymore and after working for someone I knew that it wasn't going to be worth the stress to hire people. So with the help of SCORE, a agency that's a spring off of Small Business Association so it's managed and financed Etc by the state of Washington and you get an assigned mentor for free, my mentor is this guy that taught business at University of Wash.
When I heard his name, " Mr. Raven " I expected some ' STEAMPUNK dude. Nope. Hes a tiny well dressed white man. Maybe 70 years old. He gave me free advice but they also have workshops that they charge you for an obviously now they're doing a lot of that stuff online.
Chelsea have gone completely off course but the point is is that I could be one of those people sitting on my butt at home making money off this website the guy told me why are you cleaning houses when you could be making $20,000 a month on your website.
But even with my physical pain and disabilities I still chose to start a new business where I'm going to pretty much be on my feet all day.
Back to the story of the guy with his two friends who he tried to say where his kids who supposedly works for the city of Seattle he had a pitbull that was tied to a very simple not a very sick or new leash I've seen some really cool ones I were to Goodwill for 3 years. Used to get a lot of cool leashes donated that we're like stuff you could you know Cliffhanger style that you can hang up a mountain with this stuff this was just a regular little leish.
So him and his buddies are doing this exercise that looks like one of those Army exercises with a ladder a loose fabric ladder on the sand and they're like running doing the steps in and out of it as I actually sat there with my four-year-old granddaughter because they looks interesting I wanted to see what they were doing I told her I'll look let's look at this and see what these guys are doing. Next thing I know his Pitbull lunges and he had them on like like I said the cheap like old school leash and he had it tied to another lie so he had it Jimmy so that it was like 15 ft long so the dog could just run all over I really shouldn't even be having to tell anybody any of this it's the law to not have your dogs on the beach. My dog just passed away recently I had her since 2012 and according to the new science of dog years that means she was like a hundred and four and I never let her go in town she didn't like it anyways but there's a lot of places a person can drive and hear me with my pain issues it didn't matter if it was raining or snowing I got her on the car and I took her for whatever I needed to for her to get her exercise. My rents it really isn't that much I have one of the last affordable places on Alki Beach I'm sure it's about to change because the building's been sold however I'm trying to enjoy my last year here and just started a business that will be actually operating on the beach and I don't want to talk about that right now because of the situation.
But it goes without saying that I've been working this whole last year with the lockdown trying to prepare and I probably would have been out there this weekend had my supplies not shown up so I'm staying with my four-year-old and I told the guy dude your dog is really scaring me I have this weird fear of pitbulls because even though my family raised them in the seventies and I'm talking like they had like 15 of them and they bred them and everything people used to come up to us and say what kind of dog is that. This was in Santa Fe New Mexico but our dogs were so playful and so funny and still you know I think everybody knows when they're not raised right or trained at all they can be really jumpy and if a little baby had walked up to that dog and pulled on his tail it could get snipped in the face at way before that guy cuz you anything or free himself from his exercise thing he was doing what you would clearly need a lot of focus for.
I actually wish I hadn't said anything and just filmed him and then enjoyed my day with my granddaughter and then waited till he left and got his license plate number that's what the Seattle pounder dog pounder whatever told me to do they said they had over 30 calls from Alki Beach yesterday.
You can see more of my post in detail on my next door page which is under my name is Xana La Fuente.
