information from Ballard High School Performing Arts
The Ballard High School (BHS) Playmakers invite you to “be their guest” at live, in-person performances of the classic Disney musical Beauty and the Beast. Performances will be March 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26 with two matinees on March 20 and 27. This is Ballard High’s first live musical in two years due to the pandemic.
The musical is based on Broadway’s modern classic with music from the beloved Disney animated film. It’s the story of a young selfish prince transformed into a Beast, and a young woman named Belle whom he imprisons in his castle. To become a prince again, the Beast must learn to love Belle and win her love before his 21st birthday.
The enchanted servants of the castle help light up the show. They include Lumiere, the lighthearted maitre d’ turned into a candelabra; Cogsworth, the uptight butler, now a mantle clock; and Mrs. Potts, the housekeeper who was turned into a teapot.
“Ballard High School theatre is back with in-person performances and we want everyone to celebrate with us!” says BHS Theatre Director Shawn M. Riley. “This is a moment for the whole family to be part of something whimsical, and for Ballard’s students to sparkle after performing virtually these past two years.”
Ballard’s production is directed by Riley with musical direction by BHS choir teacher Courtney Rowley. Eia Waltzer choreographed the show and BHS band teacher Jay Gilespie will conduct.
