Information from Woodland Park Zoo
Woodland Park Zoo, which opened in 1899, is thrilled to celebrate its 125th anniversary, marking over a century of dedication to animal care and community engagement. The zoo is sharing the news today, May 4, since it’s the 125th day of the year.
Over the last 125 years Woodland Park Zoo has grown into a world-renowned institution, home to more than 800 animals representing nearly 300 species. Each year more than 1 million people visit the zoo, embarking on a journey that inspires a lifelong love of animals, makes science come alive and gives people the tools to take conservation action.
As the zoo marks this milestone, it’s also working to create an even better zoo through the Forests for All campaign and the Forest Trailhead exhibit. The immersive, best-in-class exhibit will be home to Matschie’s tree kangaroos, red pandas, keas and other forest dwellers.
The exhibit is scheduled to open in 2026.
Consider donating to the new forest exhibit! Visit www.zoo.org/forestsforall to make a gift and help create a space that supports healthy forests, thriving animals, and a place to foster community engagement, equity and action.
Remember, every visit to Woodland Park Zoo supports more than 35 wildlife conservation projects in the Pacific Northwest and around the world, as well as amazing animal care for the hundreds of animals that call the zoo home.
