Drunk driver falls asleep at the wheel
A concerned driver called 9-1-1 to report what he believed was an intoxicated driver. The caller observed a vehicle bounce off a guardrail on southbound SR-509 and continue to swerve in and out of the lane. The driver took the South 148th Street off ramp and stopped at the light at 1st Ave South. The witness sat behind the vehicle as the traffic signal made two full rotations from red to green and back to red. He believed the driver had passed out at the light. Police arrived and saw the vehicle was running and in drive and the driver was asleep. Attempts to wake the man were unsuccessful so the deputy opened the door and shook him gently to wake him. The man appeared confused and immediately grabbed for his cell phone. Multiple requests to turn the vehicle off were ignored so the deputy reached in to turn it off. The man tried to get out of the vehicle but stumbled nearly falling into the street. The man was placed under arrest and taken to the precinct. His blood alcohol level was .141.
Intoxicated transient bothering customers
Deputies were called to Fred Meyer in the 14300 block of 1st Ave South. Dispatch informed the deputies that a drunken man was staggering around disturbing customers at the gas pumps. Deputies found the man sitting near the entrance of Jack in the Box next to a trash can. They smelled a strong odor of alcohol and urine. The crotch area of the man's pants was wet as if he had urinated on himself. A beer was seen sitting on the ground just behind the man. When he was asked if he could get up he responded, "Not very well because I'm a disabled veteran and drunk." He attempted to get up, with the help of a cane, but immediately fell back onto the ground. Deputies asked if they could give him a ride somewhere but he said he didn't have anywhere to go. He did agree to go to Highline Medical Center to detox.
