SeaTac embezzler sentenced to four years for stealing nearly $1M
A Redmond woman, who embezzled nearly $1 million from her employer, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Seattle to four years in prison, three years of supervised release and the payment of $811,379 in restitution for wire fraud. Sarah Jane Johnson, 42, worked for Sea-Tac based Driessen Services from 2002 to 2010. Her embezzlement scheme started after she was hired as head of human resources at the company in 2005. It involved keeping terminated employees on the company payroll and routing those funds to bank accounts she controlled. Over five years, Johnson redirected $986,481 from Driessen. The fraud was uncovered after Johnson left the company in 2010 for unrelated reasons.
Couple pleads guilty to running theft ring
Sara Kong, 41, and Chanthou Rim, 39, each pleaded guilty last week to six counts of first-degree conspiracy to commit organized retail theft. The couple is accused of directing others to steal items from retail stores and reselling some of the items to local markets and sending other goods to Cambodia, which prompted a parallel investigation by U. S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Earlier this year, undercover officers sold items alleged to have been stolen to Rim and Kong. About $5 million worth of items is believed to have been stolen from South End retail stores. In May, agents searched a shipping container at the Port of Seattle that was bound for Cambodia. Authorities found large quantities of personal, health-care and cleaning products that were not listed on the manifest for the container. Kong and Rim each face a sentence range of about 24 to 32 months in prison.
Burien love triangle
Vanna Tiv, a 36-year-old Burien woman, was charged with attempted second-degree murder/domestic violence. Police say she stabbed her boyfriend, Richthea Huth, in the neck with a butcher knife, damaging his carotid artery while he slept. Tiv then slashed her own wrist. She is being held in the King County Jail's psychiatric unit in lieu of $1 million bail. There was a love triangle between Tiv, Huth and Tiv's husband. Huth and Tiv were co-workers who began a sexual relationship a year ago. Tiv disclosed this to her husband and he demanded that she choose between the two men. She chose Huth. Huth told her that he met a woman earlier this month and he planned to marry her. Tiv went to her husband's house and said she'd changed her mind. Tiv's husband said she'd have to make up her mind. She didn't like that response and left with Huth to her sister’s apartment. The couple spent Monday night on a couch in the living room. Tiv's 14-year-old nephew awoke to Huth screaming and found him bleeding as Tiv locked herself in the bathroom. She had a deep slash to her wrist.
