It's the beginning of March and time to go for a walk. (It even looks like the forecast weather will cooperate with a little sunshine and warmth).

This Sunday, March 4 at 2:00, we'll meet up at Burien Town Square, on the grassy knoll, and start walking at 2:15. This will be the eighth monthly Walk-n-Talk enjoyed by folks from different communities coming together for conversation. Think of it as a chance to talk to people you wouldn't otherwise have a chance to chat with… and get some exercise and fresh air while you're talking.

For this month's walk, we'll go north from Town Square into the Chelsea Park area. We'll see these things, (among others): Dottie Harper Park, Burien Community Garden, white-painted tree trunks, Mortar House, Bird-House House, Stormwater Park, Green House, Purple House.

Entertain your "Inner Explorer". Discover visual and architectural details you might not otherwise see. Walk with your Burien neighbors, as well as others from Renton, Kent, Lacey, Bellevue and…

One of the bonuses of being on foot or on two wheels is not just the slower pace, but the varied route. I don't know about you, but when I'm in my car, I generally drive the same route every time. Boring! When I'm walking or riding my bike, my curious nature is heightened and I travel roads I've never seen before (even though I grew up here in Burien).

Location: Burien Town Square
Who: Walkers of every level and ability
Date: March 4th, 2012
Time: Meet at 2:00 p.m. Start walking at 2:15 p.m.
Route: A 2.3 mile loop from Burien Town Square, north into Chelsea Park, and back to Town Square.
This route is mostly flat with a few slightly rolling areas, but no big hills.
Begin at Burien Town Square.
Go north on 4th Ave. SW.
Turn left - west - on SW 144th St.
Go right - north - around the curve onto 6th Ave. SW.
Turn left - west - on SW 141st St.
Go right - north - on 8th Ave. SW
Go right - east - on SW 138th St.
Turn right - south - onto 6th Ave. SW
Turn left - east - on SW 142nd St.
Turn right - south - on 4th Ave. SW
Continue straight ahead along 4th back to Town Square.
Intentions for Burien’s Walk-n-Talk:
“Encourage active living to support physical and mental health.”
(Part of Burien’s new “Vision”.)
Initiate conversation between friends and neighbors, new and old.
Nurture the idea of our Town Square as the “living room” of Burien,
our center and gathering place.
Create our own little “volksmarch“, in the European tradition.
Support our local cafés and restaurants on Sunday afternoons.
