St. Patricks Day seemed to be celebrated a week early during Buirien's Cove to Clover fundraising 5K and 10K races today as runners wearing wacky green outfits and accessories augmented the wooded streets of Normandy Park, and sparkled above the haystack at 20th by 152nd in Burien. Over 1.500 registered, and Ryan Prentice, 21, of Normandy Park came in first in the 10K race. Like a typical afternoon in Ireland, the sun burst briefly through the clouds, then was overcome by rain and wind, and then just a chill in the Eire, er, air.
And, as they say, everyone was a winner, even several dogs, some reluctant, slowing down their owners, others robust, pulling their human running mates up to help beat the snake.
Event organizer John Nelson, who seemed to be assisting at several places at the same time wore a green jacket and a smile when, at the end of the race, he told the Highline Times he was pleased with the turnout and weather.
