A new bikini barista drive-thru coffee kiosk opens at 15817 1st Ave. S. Will it give Starbucks across the street a run for its money?
A new so-called "bikini barista" drive-thru coffee kiosk opened at 15817 1st Ave. S. called Honey Buns, adding color, well, yellow, to the business district there. Body parts aside, they actually do sell Little Debbie Honey Buns, but plan to offer fresh buns soon. The owner leases the spot from Jay's Mini Mart, on its property. The mart is just north of the bright booth. Honey Bun's owner asked that we do not photograph the two young ladies serving the java when we were there, so we agreed.
One employee was dressed in a slight black bikini. Her colleague was also dressed in black, but her wardrobe was more French Maid than swimming attire.
According to Wikipedia, the bikini barista phenom began in the Seattle area. The first, Natte Latte, opened in 1999, followed in 2003 by "Cowgirls Espresso" in Tukwila. The website Bikini-Baristas.com currently lists 117 bikini espresso locations in Washington state. Honey Buns is not (yet) on the list. Included are Sweet Cheeks Espresso in Des Moines and Sea-Tac, and Bombshell Espresso, Cowgirls Espresso (two locations, one named Moo-Licious Espresso).
The Highline Times did an article in 2010 on Sweet Cheeks Espresso here.
No sign yet of Howard Schultz's car in front of the booth.
