SeaTac robbery suspect shot by officer near mosque
A man who allegedly beat and robbed another man inside a SeaTac mosque was shot and wounded by a King County sheriff's deputy after he then tried to run over deputies with a stolen car Thursday morning, June 19, according to sheriff's spokesperson Cindi West. The mosque, Seatac Masjid, is located at 3040 S. 150th St. A man who went into the mosque to pray just after 8 a.m. apparently startled another man who was sleeping. He awoke, jumped up, and began punching the other man, taking his wallet and car keys. He fled after the victim was able to distract him by throwing a bag at him, West said. The victim then phoned 911. Deputies quickly arrived and were met with the sound of a car starting up behind the mosque. One deputy had to jump out of the way because
she heard the vehicle gunning it toward her, West said. The deputy was running for her life, West said. The suspect had stolen a car and was aiming it at the deputy. At least one deputy fired at the suspect's car. The suspect then drove through a tent set up behind the mosque for meetings and flipped the car onto its roof after striking a neighbor's fence. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Deputies said the man has a history of mental illness.
Normandy Park man pleads guilty for July, 2011 hit-and-run that killed bicyclist Twenty-eight year-old Erlin Garcia-Reyes of Normandy Park was booked into the King County Jail Wednesday, July 18, for a felony hit-and-run. He pleaded guilty July 17. He was arrested June 6. Police say more than 50 tips from the public helped them track down a driver suspected in a hit-and-run accident that killed a bicycle rider July 28 of last year on Dexter Ave. N., in Seattle. Bail was set at $500,000 at a Thursday afternoon court hearing. He will face a prison term of two years and seven months to three years and five months at his sentencing hearing scheduled for Aug. 10. The victim, 44-yearold Michael Wang, was a a husband, and father of two, and a photographer at PATH, a Seattle-based global nonprofit world health organization. He commuted by bike to his home in Shoreline. Wang was struck July 28 by an SUV making a turn. The driver left the scene.
