"Burien Arts presents two Shakespeare plays each summer, which we've been doing for about 20 years," said Linda Dougherty, President, Burien Arts Board of Trustees. "'The Taming of the Shrew' has staying power. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton starred in the (1967) movie. And "Kiss Me, Kate", the musical, was also based on the play. It's a feisty tale and would be enjoyable I think for most audiences.
"Henry VIII was probably one of the most notorious of England's kings," said Dougherty. "The play is about the power struggles that went on in his court, and the behind the scenes scheming. They play ends with the birth of the first Queen Elizabeth. Because of all the different characters and their machinations they go through it portrays a real slice of English history.
"I liked 'The Tempest', the one they did last year," she recalled. "It was a fanciful, charming tale, with lots of action. GreenStage presents Shakespeare in a way that's audience-friendly. Cast members will occasionally come out and weave their way through the audience, so they really do a wonderful job of bringing the play to you."
