Highline came close to making a game of it early, but the Pirates still wound up with a lopsided 56-6 loss at the hands of Kennedy Catholic.
When the score of Friday's game was only 14-0, Highline drove all the way to the Kennedy 2-yard line before Pirate quarterback Erik Anderson was stopped at the line of scrimmage on a fourth down and one yard situation.

The Pirates also drove to the 10 in the second quarter before a 26-yard field goal attempt by Danny Garcia was blocked and fell into the hands of JFK's Zach Nobmann.

Nobmann ran it all the way to the Kennedy 40, setting up a touchdown that made it 28-0. Highline did not score until it was down 35-0 and the state No. 4-ranked Lancers were well on their way to the win.

The Pirates started off on the wrong foot, losing the ball on a fumble on their first play from scrimmage only six seconds into the game. Kennedy scored its first touchdown on the very next play as Cole Madison hauled in a 28-yard touchdown pass. The point after touchdown attempt by Colin Cossette was good to make the score 7-0 only 12 seconds into the game.

Kennedy Catholic did not strike again until only 52 seconds remained on the first quarter clock.

Cossette ran around the right side and lunged into the end zone from 22 yards out --matching his jersey number -- and also kicked his own extra point.

That upped the score to 14-0, and JFK took over at its own two after Highline stalled there and crossed the field for a touchdown four plays later. Cossette did the scoring honors again on a 16-yard run and kicked another extra point for a 21-0 lead with 7:34 to play in the second quarter.

Kennedy found the end zone again with 1:59 to go before halftime when Antonio Wynter used a burst of speed to score on the left side from the 23-yard line. Cossette was accurate on his kick to make it 28-0.
With just six seconds remaining on the first half clock Drew Thompson punched the ball in from the 1-yard line and Cossette scored the extra point for a 35-0 JFK advantage.

Highline finally found the end zone with 8:12 to play in the third quarter.

Brandon Baker snatched up a fumble and found himself alone in front of the pack going the other direction -- scoring on a 77-yard return. The kick for the PAT was missed to leave the Pirates down, 35-6.
The rest of the third quarter was scoreless, but the fourth quarter was anything but for the Lancers.

Wynter ran for a 20-yard touchdown on the right side at 11:12 to play and Cossette's kick made it 42-6.

The next score came at the 9:37 mark when Cossette scored on a 7-yard run and kicked the PAT for a 49-6 lead.

That put the margin over 40 points, putting the rest of the game on a running clock with stops only for extra point kicks.

Kennedy stopped it once, after Josh Harms ran for a 3-yard touchdown with 56 seconds remaining. Cossette's timeless PAT put the final score at 56-6.

Now JFK (7-1) is preparing for its regular season finale with the Seamount League title on the line, taking on Lindbergh in a 7 p.m. Thursday game at Highline Memorial.

Highline pays a visit to Evergreen on the same field at 8 p.m. Friday, following a 5 p.m. game between Mount Rainier of Des Moines and Emerald Ridge of Puyallup.
