"Hot Spot" initiative nabs 33 for drugs, guns, & other crimes
The U.S. Attorney's Office, Western Washington District, released information on Oct. 23, that 33 people are now in jail and 28 firearms are off the street as the result of a three month U.S. Department of Justice “Hot Spot” initiative in South King County.
Operation Down in the Valley targeted gang violence and drug and gun sales in the Kent, Renton, and Tukwila areas. The initiative, led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and ICEʼs Homeland Security Investigation also took nearly 14 pounds of methamphetamine off the street, as well as cocaine, heroin, and prescription narcotics. Seattle area. It follows the successful focus on White Center in 2011. Jorge Fernandez- Munoz is charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and was arrested October 17, 2012, outside the Tukwila Target store, where he had set up a two-pound methamphetamine deal with a person working with law enforcement.

Man rams patrol car in Burien
According to police, a man rammed a patrol car in Burien, then led them on a chase through south King County Sunday, Oct. 21. Police said the incident began when they received a report of someone prowling cars at Highline High School. When officers arrived, the driver rammed a King County deputy and drove off, police said. Investigators said the driver slammed into three cars, including one by victim Julie Stratton. “I saw what looked like a crumpled mass of blue metal hurling towards me,” Stratton told police. After the crash, witness Debbie Kurtze saw the man run off and made sure police knew where to find him. Witness Sherri Malone said she saw the man jump over a fence into her back yard. The man ended up in Mark Harringtonʼs yard. Harrington said the man told him he had just had his third DUI and needed to escape. The King County Sheriff Department reported the 27-year-old suspect has "a long criminal history" and may face assault charges for ramming the police cruiser.

SeaTac Airport makes top 10 list…for screener theft
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is one of the top 10 airports in the U.S. for security screeners fired for theft, ABC News reported Oct. 23. Of the nearly 400 employees the Transportation Security Administration fired for theft through the end of last year, 12
worked at Sea-Tac, ABC reported. That tied it with Newark Liberty and Philadelphia International airports for eighth place. However, 16 of the top 20, including Seattle, were also among the nation's 20 busiest airports.
