JFK selects baseball coach

Kennedy Catholic has obtained Jon O’Connor to lead its baseball program effective immediately. O’Connor comes to Kennedy Catholic with a rich history and experience as a player and coach. Most recently, Jon served as the assistant head coach for North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo.
As a high school athlete at Medical Lake in Eastern Washington, Jon played varsity baseball for four years and served on the all-state team. He went on to play at Yakima Valley College and began coaching in 2007. In 2010, he moved to North Kitsap and coached back-to-back league championships and had a state playoff appearance in 2012. While at North Kitsap, he resurrected the American Legion Summer Baseball Program as the head coach. He went 50-28 with a league championship.
He plans to start a summer baseball program at Kennedy Catholic to prepare the student athletes for competition in the Seamount League. He is also completing a degree in Sports Management and Administration at the United States Sports Academy.
Mt. Rainier retains Tremain
After serving one year as the interim head coach Tremain Mack has been selected to continue on as the head coach of the Mount Rainier High School football team.
Cotto resigns at Highline
Juan Cotto has resigned as the head football coach at Highline High School and the position is now open.
"Juan worked very hard to improve the performance of our players both on and off the field," said Highline Public Schools director of athletics Terri McMahan. "The standards of fair play and character modeled for those in and around the program were outstanding. Juan's family needs him at this time and we are sorry to see him go."
Mountaineers now 4-0
The Seattle Mountaineers of the professional American Basketball Association ran their record to 6-0 with a 109-101 win over the Olympia Rise. They were ranked No. 6 in the nation in the association's latest power rankings.
Seattle visits Peninsula College in Port Angeles for a 5 p.m. double-header Friday, Nov. 30 and stays for a 7 p.m. game Saturday, Dec. 1.
The next game on the Mountaineers' regular home court at Renton High School is scheduled for 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 12 against the Calgary Crush. The Kitsap Admirals come to town at the same time Saturday, Jan. 19.

A number of errors and omissions appeared in the state swimming article that ran in the online edition of the Highline Times/Des Moines News/SeaTac News.
Vanessa Moffatt of Kennedy Catholic took second place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 54.27 seconds as well as finishing fifth in the 100 butterfly in 57:58.
The 400 free relay team did take eighth place, but the Lancers also had a 16th place finish in the 200 medley relay.
Also it was Megan Kawaguchi of Mount Rainier High School who was pictured coming off the starting block in the 200 individual medley, where she took third.
