Burien woman sentenced
A Burien woman was sentenced Dec. 6 in U.S. District Court in Seattle, to five years in prison and five years of supervised release for four felony counts connected to the laundering of illegal proceeds from the drug distribution conspiracy she participated in with her husband, announced U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan.
Svetlana Angel Yim, 30, was convicted in April 2012, following a five-week jury trial. The jury found her responsible for being part of a conspiracy that trafficked cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as laundered millions of dollars in drug proceeds. Yim’s husband, Drew Yim, 38, was sentenced to 15 years in prison in May 2012 for leading the drug conspiracy that distributed a variety of illegal drugs from Mexico to Canada and east across the United States.
Svetlana Yim handled money laundering in the conspiracy, purchasing property and cars in the names of other people, as well as expensive jewelry and other luxuries.

Student pleads not guilty
A community-college student from China, Yichun Xu,19, pleaded not guilty Dec. 6 to vehicular homicide in a Des Moines crash that resulted in the death of a 25-year-old woman.
Xu also entered not guilty pleas on five other charges related to the crash.
He is accused of driving his new Mercedes-Benz through residential streets at freeway speeds.

Two handcycles recovered
Two handcycles stolen from paralyzed Renton veteran Ernie Butler Nov. 7 turned up found in Tukwila, thanks to citizens who heard about the crime through media reports. Butler discovered that his handcycles were missing from the secured parking garage of his north Renton apartment, according to the Renton Police Department.
On Nov. 24, a man brought a silver Freedom Ryder handcycle to the Renton Police Department. The man told detectives he had overheard teens talking about riding a handcycle. He questioned the teens after he heard them refer to media reports about the theft. He found the handcycle abandoned in the yard the next morning across the Duwamish River from Allentown and brought it to the police.
Then another citizen brought the second handcycle to the Tukwila Police Department, telling them that he had found it behind a Tukwila business and had decided to turn it in after seeing media coverage about the theft, according to the police department.
Renton Detectives have confirmed that these two handcycles are the ones stolen from Butler earlier in November. Anyone with further information about this case is asked to contact Renton Police detective Onishi at 425-430-7529.

Normandy Pk. shooting victim sought
On Dec. 4, Normandy Park Officers were in the 100-300-block area of Southwest Normandy Road on foot conducting a follow-up investigation from the Nov. 29 shooting when shots were fired, resulting in a lock-down at John Knox Presbyterian Church.
Two males were involved in a fight. One of the males fired a shot at the other as the victim was running away. The shooter fled the scene in a green Ford Explorer "type vehicle" according to the Normandy Police Department. The victim has not been identified. There are no known injuries.
The suspected shooter was taken into custody on Saturday, Dec. 1 and is still in jail as of Dec. 4. This investigation is on going. Any people with information about this shooting are encouraged to call the Normandy Park Police Department at 206-248-7600.
