Bearcats gear up for new season
"Who are we? BEARCATS! Where are we from? BURIEN!"
That Is the chant you will hear at the Bearcats' practice field which is located at Glacier High School off Des Moines Memorial Way located at 2450 S 142nd St. (Behind the school). The Bearcats are searching for Alumni, along with new faces to join the league.
Football season is around the corner and the Bearcats are already in the mist of gearing up for their 2013 season. The Burien Bearcats have been around town for roughly 50 plus years and are still going strong. The Burien junior football program is hoping that some of the previous alumni will see this article and contact them, as they would love to have some background and fun stories to put up on their website, which is burienbearcats.org.
The franchise is open to 6 - 14 year olds and the teams are put together based on age and weight.
Along with football there is a cheer squad that is always looking for girls that want to learn some fun chants, meet new friends, and have fun cheering on 160th from noon to 2 p.m. on May 4. People can also check the program out during its first fundraising donation car wash which will be May 19 at Les Schwab on 1st Avenue So. from 11- 3 p.m.
Please check the Bearcats' site for upcoming events. Our regular season will begin Aug. 5.
Anyone looking for a great way to support Youth Athletics can help out with team as well as player sponsorships.

Opening day to have Hawaiian theme
Seattle Yacht Club is pleased to host their 93rd annual Opening Day parade on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Admiral Tyler Ellison, Admiralette Gina Purdy, and Vice Admiral Michael Carrosino are leading the colorful celebration. This year's theme "Hawaiian Magic" holds a very special Aloha for many in the Northwest.
Our traditional Seattle Yacht Club boat parade can trace its roots to a Fourth of July celebration on Seattle's waterfront in 1895. Shortly after the Lake Washington Ship Canal was completed in 1920, linking Seattle's inland lakes with Puget Sound, the parade moved to the fresh waters of the ship canal.
The 2013 Seattle Yacht Club Opening Day of boating season is viewed through the Montlake Cut. The canoe and rowing competitions are the first events in this celebration and this year they will be highlighted by Ivy League teams from Dartmouth and Cornell competing against the University of Washington in the 27th year of the Windermere Cup.
