Murdered taxi driver’s widow suing the city and county
In August of 2012 Harjit Singh, a Des Moines taxi driver, was shot five times as he sat in his taxi van in Burien. Singh was the sole provided of his family. He left behind a wife and three children. His wife, Baljinder Kaur, is now suing to get her husband’s taxi license returned. She has been training to take over her husband’s taxi business but the city of Seattle and King County revoked his license. They are also holding his minivan because it is evidence in a murder trial. Because Singh had a wheelchair accessible minivan the city has stricter standards to become licensed. Kaur has hired an attorney and is fighting to get the license returned to her family. She currently works part time to support her family. A county representative declined to comment on the case.
