The city of SeaTac announced today the completion of the SeaTac Community Skate Park, a new recreational addition to the SeaTac Community Center Neighborhood Park located at 13735 24th Avenue South.
The skate park will be unveiled at a public ribbon cutting ceremony this Wednesday, July 24 at 2 p.m.
The skate park features a surface area of 6,000 square feet of skating elements such as ramps, sculptures, ledges and transitions for all skill-levels and abilities. The skate park also features state-of-the-art lighting.
The park addition is the product of years of collaboration between the City and King County, who awarded the Parks Department with a Community Development Block Grant in 2010. The project was fully funded by the grant of $278,900.
“We are committed to having a healthy, vibrant community, and we take a great deal of pride in our parks,” said Kit Ledbetter, Parks and Recreation Director for the City. “This new skate addition will give our youth another incentive to get outside and be active, and have a place to call their own. We are thrilled to unveil this amenity to the public as we know it will be enjoyed for the remainder of the summer and for many years to come.”
The SeaTac Community Center Neighborhood Park features a variety of recreational activities including a basketball court, disk golf course, climbing boulder, swing set and play equipment, soccer and softball fields, as well as a sensory garden, Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden, and Japanese Garden.
The skate park is also in close proximity to the BMX race course and Remote Control Car track.
Over the last decade, the City has made significant improvements to its 10 parks, most recently with the $1.5 million construction project of the Angle Lake Park. SeaTac is proud to claim one of the highest acres of parks per capita in the state, many of which host community events such as the annual International Festival.
