Burien Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services is pleased to present an exhibition by artist Mark Davidson at the Burien Community Center. The exhibition titled “The Evolution of the Fish” will be on display through the end of November.

Mark has always enjoyed the different perspectives portrayed in Native American wildlife art. These perspectives range from traditional to abstract to caricature. In this exhibit, Mark has displayed an evolution of skill development and techniques, as well as portraying the characteristics of the fish. In some cases the art looks like a familiar salmon and in others, it morphs into a common fish. Mark enjoys the versatility of transforming slabs of clay into 3 dimensional objects. Trends in the series show stamped textures and raised panels as well as different techniques of wiped off glazes and stains to bring out details to create the evolution of the collection.

Mark Davidson has lived in the Seattle area over 19 years with his wife and two grown children. He currently works as a food scientist for a local food manufacturer in their research & development laboratory. Mark’s passion for creativity with pottery stems back to his childhood in Kansas City where he took ceramic classes and high school pottery classes. His interest also guided him to take a pottery class at Kansas State University which influenced interest in more exaggerated organic structure. Mark has participated in Burien’s Moshier Pottery Studio handbuilding classes as well as their pottery sales.

The Burien Community Center is open Monday-Thursday 8:30AM-8:00PM and Fridays 8:30AM-5:00PM.
