Former stars converge on Garfield
CHICAGO – The National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA), the only Association comprised of NBA, ABA, Harlem Globetrotters and WNBA alumni, will host a youth basketball and life skills clinic in Seattle on October 26 at Garfield High School in conjunction with the National Police Athletic League (PAL) and National Urban League.
Former Seattle SuperSonics great Shawn Kemp (6-time NBA All-Star) headlines a list of NBRPA Legends serving as coaches. Additional coaches include former NBA players Slick Watts (Seattle SuperSonics/NBA All-Defensive First Team), Vester Marshall (Seattle SuperSonics) and Eldridge Recasner (University of Washington/9-year NBA career) and former Harlem Globetrotters player Joyce Walker (one of the first women to join the Globetrotters). These Legends of Basketball will conduct the basketball portion of the event, which will impact more than 150 local at-risk youth in Seattle as part of a 14-city touring youth basketball and mentoring program titled Full Court Press: Prep for Success.
The October 26 youth basketball and mentoring clinic will open with a press conference the morning of the event at 9 a.m., followed immediately by the clinic.
