Local Resident to be “Locked Up For Good”
Fri, 04/11/2014
Burien resident Renatta Emerson is scheduled to be “locked up” on May 14th. Her crime is having a big heart but she won’t be sent to a normal jail. Emerson is being sentenced to the Smith Tower for a jail themed fundraising event for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) called the Lock Up.
Emerson, owner of Immersion Events, is participating in MDA’s premier annual fundraising event to raise funds for life-saving research. Her bail has been set at $3200, which goes to help families in Western Washington who are affected by neuromuscular diseases. If she does not make bail by May 14th, she has agreed to spend the afternoon behind bars (and yes, a striped suit may be involved). You can help her raise bail by visiting www2.mda.org/goto/renattaemerson and making a secure online donation.
The MDA raises funds and awareness to fight 43 neuromuscular diseases including Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and ALS (or Lou Gehrig’s Disease) with the ultimate goal of funding the development of treatments and cures. Every minute, the MDA spends $75 to fund more than 300 research projects across the world. Donations allow MDA to make a difference by funding local services for families as well as research into finding a cure.
