Foster's Bulldogs came out barking and Tyee's defensive play went south.
The end result was double trouble for the Totems -- who were trounced, 12-6, by the Bulldogs in Seamount League baseball action Wednesday.
Foster build a 7-0 lead through the top of the fourth inning, while Tyee was plagued by seven errors and eight resulting unearned runs.
Foster improved its record to 3-3 in league play with the victory while knocking the Totems to 2-4. Both are among the Class 2A teams in the mixed 3A/2A Seamount. Lindbergh has the top 2A record of 4-2.
"It was a big win," said Foster head coach Eric Hall. "This was a team we looked at before the year and knew it would be a pivotal game. They're a good team and got us twice last year. They've got a lot of talent."
"We needed that one," said Tyee head coach Tremain Mack. "We just played terrible baseball today. Any time you give up that many unearned runs you're going to lose. Our kids just didn't show up today. But we're growing. We'll be fine."
The two teams get to do it all again on Foster's diamond at Showalter Middle School in Tukwila at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23.
"We play them again, and we expect another close game -- a game that could go either way," said Hall.
"Hopefully we'll be ready to go," said Mack. "Hopefully we'll get a couple of wins under our belt and challenge these guys next time. We've got to regroup and play good baseball from here on out."
The Bulldogs sprang out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first Wednesday.
Connor Forsyth led off with a double to right center and Tyler Solemsaas singled him in.
Two outs later, Mitchell Forhan hit into an error at second to move Solemsaas to second before DeRoyce Rowland hit into a two-base error in right to bring in both runners.
Another unearned run was tacked on in the second.
Patrick Straight hit into a two-base throwing error by the Totems' pitcher and scored on a two-out double to right by Solemsaas.
Foster added three runs in the third.
Yoshio Sanchez drew a one-out walk and advanced on a balk call, then went to third as Forsyth hit into an error in center field. Forsyth advanced to second on the throw in.
Solemsaas then grounded the ball to Tyee shortstop Ethan Park and he fired the ball home for a tag out by catcher Jordan Owen.
Forsyth moved to third on the play, and Solemsaas -- who reached on a close play at first -- advanced to second on a passed ball.
Max Montoya drew a walk to load the bases with two out and David Em, Mitchell Forhan and Rowland followed with singles for three more runs. Em drove in two with a hit to center and Forhan singled in Montoya before Rowland reached on an infield single that loaded the bases.
But Tyee pitcher Jar Yourglich got out of the jam by forcing an unassisted groundout to first baseman Brock O'Brien.
Foster pitcher Forsyth, meanwhile, had a no-hitter going into the bottom of the fourth with four of his nine strikeouts in that time.
"Connor threw real well," said coach Hall of his eventual game winner. "He's our senior captain and we knew we'd get a good game from him. He was focused and came out and threw hard."
The Totems tallied four runs in the fourth off of Forsyth to make things interesting.
Yourglich was hit by a pitch and Owen walked, ahead of a passed ball and a run scoring pop fly single by Isaak Wiebe that broke up the no-hitter and scored Yourglich to also spoil the shutout.
Owen and Wiebe stole third and second, respectively, and O'Brien hit into an error to right to bring in Owen and put Wiebe on third.
O'Brien stole second, and Nick Archembault singled in both runners to make it 7-4.
Tosh Elan followed with a walk and Park singled down the left-field line to load the bases and put the tying run aboard, but Yourglich flew out to center field to end the inning.
The Bulldogs went back to work in the fifth, scoring three runs as Em hit into a bases-loaded, two-out, two-base error in right.
Sanchez, Tyee's third baseman, had gunned down Straight trying to score on a grounder by Montoya for the second out.
The Totems came out swinging in the fifth, with Owen blasting the ball into very deep left center field. It kept rolling toward the Valley Ridge Park bluff, but Owen was nabbed trying to stretch a double into a triple on a relay from Straight in center to Solemsaas at shortstop to Sanchez at third.
Wiebe followed with a double to nearly the same spot -- with both shots probably being home runs on most other fields. But a strikeout and groundout ended the inning.
The Bulldogs scored two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh and final inning.
Forsyth drew a one-out walk and Solemsaas hit into an error before Montoya bunted both runners over and Em scored them with a base hit to left.
Tyee then put together a last gasp effort in the bottom of the seventh with the team down, 12-4.
Owen walked with one out and stole second and Wiebe doubled him over to third. Aaron Lucas doubled to deep right field to bring both runners home and make it 12-6.
That was where the score stayed, although it was not as if the Totems didn't keep trying.
Lucas was thrown out at third on an O'Brien grounder, then David Smith singled and Archembault walked to load the bases.
Forsyth followed with a strikeout to end the game.
