Hot weather makes people crabby in Des Moines
Thu, 07/17/2014
At Des Moines Marina Thursday, July 17, people took advantage of the tail end of the hot streak to go to the marina dock. Some just went to enjoy the nice weather before it turns to what we normally knows as summer.
Some fished. And some tended crab pots. The Des Moines pier is 670 feet long so there is room for a lot of activity. On Thursday, a harbor seal was busy dining on things which either fell out of some crab nets as their owners tossed them into the bay or found other things to nibble on in the water. For those interested in visiting the pier and fishing or crabbing, be sure to read state regulations about what is allowable to keep.
Types of crab may commonly found in the water there include: Dungeness (the largest of the three) , Red Rock and Box Crab or King Crab. Size matters. So does sex. Make sure you know what is allowed.
