On Jan. 23, around 3:30 p.m. detectives arrested 30-year-old Tyler Beavis, a Canadian citizen, who had flown into SeaTac Airport with the intent of having sex with a 14-year-old girl from Seattle.
In mid-December an employee with the local school district stumbled upon the online exchanges between Beavis and the underage girl. The chats were shown to officers with the King County Sheriff’s Office at which point detectives began monitoring their communications as well as Beavis’s whereabouts with detectives in Canada.
In the online chats the two continued to plan to meet even after the girl had told Beavis her true age, which is where things get truly twisted.
Per their plan Beavis would fly into SeaTac, rendezvous with the girl, and spend the weekend having sex with her in a hotel. In order to explain her disappearance the two agreed that the girl would tell her parents that she had been drugged and kidnapped for the weekend.
Detectives in Canada alerted the KCSO that Beavis had purchased a ticket to Seattle and alerted officers immediately after Beavis boarded the plane. He arrived at SeaTac late Friday morning.
After touching down and renting a car Beavis was apprehended in Kent at the “meet” site without incident.
He was initially booked for Investigation of Communicating with a Minor for Immoral Purposes and Investigation for Kidnapping. Over the weekend Beavis was formally charged with 2nd Degree Attempted Kidnapping and 3rd Degree Attempted Rape of a Child with bail set at $300k. Federal charges may be filed as well since Beavis is from Canada (he currently resides in Smithville, about an hour outside of Toronto).
The young girl in this case was unaware of the detectives’ investigation and never made actual contact with Beavis.
