Discover Burien’s “Clean Sweep”
Wed, 04/08/2015
It’s time again to roll up those sleeves to tackle trash and beautify Burien during the city’s annual Clean Sweep, starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, and sponsored by Recology CleanScapes.
From 8 a.m. – Noon, Burienites will be shredding confidential paperwork, picking up litter, eliminating graffiti, and sweeping sidewalks.
A continental breakfast will be available in the morning at Fire Station No. 2 on 8th Ave SW, along with a hot dog lunch in the afternoon to thank the volunteers. Participants will also receive a ticket that will enable them to enter to win prizes and giveaways. Winners will be announced at the end of the event! The top prize this year is a bicycle, generously sponsored by Collins Chiropractic.
HomeTask’s Shred Day event also takes place from 9 a.m. – Noon at their office at 611 SW 152nd Street. The suggested donation for shredding is $10 for the first box and $5 for each additional box (typical fees are around $35/box). All proceeds from Shred Day go to local nonprofits, some of whom will be at the event. Boxes of paperwork can be left at HomeTask before the shredding truck arrives.
This year Relay for Life is also partnering with Value Village to encourage you to clean your closet to help fund cancer research. For every pound of clothes you donate on April 25th, 20 cents will be donated to our Highline Relay for Life Team. Just clean your closet, and bring your items to the Municipal Parking lot, located at 631 SW 151st St in downtown Burien. People will be there to accept your donation from 8am-1pm.
Please come out this year and help us celebrate Earth Month as we work to make Burien a cleaner, brighter and more sustainable community.
