Highline High School graduate Ryan Brett was set to make his Major League Baseball starting debut Tuesday night as the second baseman for the Tampa Bay Rays.
Brett and the Rays are hosting the Boston Red Sox this week, after he made his first plate appearances at home against the New York Yankees this past weekend.
"He's a prospect for the Majors starting at second base," said Brett's agent, Nik Lubisich of the Northwest Sports Management Group. "It's a big accomplishment."
Brett flew out to left in his first at-bat in the Majors against the Yankees, then walked his second trip to the plate.
Brett then doubled off the wall for a double in his third plate appearance, giving him a .500 average (1-for-2) going into Wednesday's first start against the Red Sox.
"His parents and myself went down to Tampa for the debut over the weekend," Lubisich said. "So it's a big deal for the family."
Brett has been with Lubisich and his Northwest Sports Management Group since he signed with the Rays in 2010, which was also the year the business.
NWSMG currently works for seven Major League Baseball players who hail from throughout the Northwest.
"We've been representing him since he was a senior at Highline High School and helped him through everything," said Lubisich of Brett.
