Burien Police and Burien C.A.R.E.S. rescue passed out dog in hot car

A concerned citizen dialed 911 last Saturday afternoon after arriving in downtown Burien, between 4th Ave. S.W. and 5th Ave. S.W. on S.W. 152nd Street, and spotting a car with what appeared to be an unconscious small dog in it. Officers from the Burien Police Department and employees of Burien C.A.R.E.S. responded to the report and were on the scene just minutes later. Upon arrival police found the vehicle with all four windows opened slightly but the dog unresponsive inside. According to witnesses, police looked over the vehicle and discovered that one door had been left unlocked. The staff from C.A.R.E.S. removed the dog and were able to revive it before giving it water. When Police checked the temperature inside the car, despite being 84 degrees outside, the temperature had reached 103 degrees inside. Witnesses told police that the car had been parked there for several hours. C.A.R.E.S. took the dog into custody and police report that the owner will be cited upon attempting to retrieve the animal. The owner of the vehicle had still not returned to the scene by the time police and Burien C.A.R.E.S. had concluded their investigation.
