PacWest got out of the gate quickly at the Senior Little League all-star baseball state tournament in Snohomish despite not gaining experience in any District 7 tournament.
The team went straight to state since it was the only one in the district but won its first two games before absorbing a narrow 8-5 loss to District 6 in Wednesday's winners bracket final.
PacWest opened the age 14-15 action with an 11-1 victory over District 8 on Monday before blasting District 4 by a 10-3 score the next night.
Wednesday's loss dropped the team into the losers bracket final scheduled for Friday with a shot to win and get into the 12 p.m. Saturday state finals.
The tournament is double-elimination, so PacWest would have to beat the District 6 team twice to take the state championship.
