Fireworks may be to blame for apartment fire in Tukwila

A brush fire in Tukwila caused twenty people to be evacuated from their homes after it grew quicker than fire crews could contain and climbed their apartment building. According to the Tukwila Fire Department, the fire was started in a field on the 1500 block of MacAdams Road just west of I-5 in Tukwila around 9:00 p.m. on July 11th. Though emergency responders were on the scene within minutes of the fire being reported, flames quickly grew to a reported 30 feet tall and traveled across the field towards an apartment complex. Twenty people were evacuated as firefighters combatted the flames in an attempt to prevent the entire complex from being consumed. The majority of the damage to the building was caused by excessive heat though one of the second story balconies was consumed in the fire. The cause of the fire is still officially under investigation but the Tukwila Fire Department reports that the early evidence points to fireworks being the source of the fire. 16 of the 20 residents of the apartment building were allowed to return to their homes before the end of the night. No one was seriously injured as a result of the fire.
