The Highline Times was contacted by the Meyers & Fox, P.L.L.C. on behalf of the Resurrection Motorcycle Club concerning a shooting incident that occurred on Aug.27 in Tukwila. The incident was not only notable for the brazen gunfire directed at police officers but also for the mugshot of the main suspect, Kevin M. Vaughn. The 26-year-old Vaughn has the word “Hatred” tattooed across his forehead.
At the time of the incident it was noted that Vaughn was believed to be involved with the Resurrection Motorcycle Club. Speaking on behalf of the Resurrection club Michael David Meyers of Meyers & Fox reached out to the Highline Times to clarify that Vaughn has no association with the club whatsoever and that in fact some of their members may actually be victims of his auto theft operation.
“Mr. Vaughn has a tattoo of a former resurrection member (who is now deceased) and a gas tank of a Resurrection member who now lives in California. The tattoo is admittedly unusual. But a tattoo of an individual does not establish an “association” with an organization to which that member used to belong and a gas tank that was found or stolen does not provide evidence that Resurrection Motorcycle Club and its members are any different than Mr. Vaughn’s other victims,” wrote Meyers.
Included in this letter was a quote purported to be from Tukwila Police Cmdr. Eric Drever stating “the Tukwila Police Department does not hold a position that Mr. Vaughn was a member of the Resurrection Motorcycle Club.”
The Highline Times was asked to clarify this non-affiliation between Vaughn and the Resurrection Motorcycle Club for “safety reasons” to the members. Further, Meyers explained that the “Resurrection Motorcycle Club condemns violence toward law enforcement and the conduct of the motorcyclists who shot at the Tukwila Police Officers”.
On Aug. 27, around 5:30 a.m., officers with the Tukwila Police Department and the P.A.T.R.O.L. Auto Theft Regional Task Force served a search warrant on a home located on the 14900 block of 51st Ave. S. in Tukwila, near I-5. The warrant concerned “prolific South King County auto thief” Kevin M. Vaughn and the house.
While officers were serving the warrant two motorcyclists riding south pulled off to the shoulder on the I-5 off-ramp near the home, giving themselves a vantage point looking down on the home. From there they opened fire on the officers outside the home with two handguns and then sped off southbound on I-5. While it is believed that at least 13 shots were fired only 10 shell casings were recovered. No one was injured or hit.
It is believed that someone inside the home called and tipped off Vaughn to the officers’ presence once they arrived. Numerous firearms were discovered inside the home during the search.
