On Oct. 29, at about 4:13 p.m., SeaTac police received numerous calls reporting gunfire near the intersection of S. 154th St. and 24th Ave. S., just north of the airport. When police and medics arrived on the scene they found 28-year-old Andrae Medina-Wong dead and learned from eye witnesses that another man had fled the scene on foot.
The fleeing subject was described as a black male in his 20s wearing a black shirt with a gold star on the front. Guardian One was deployed to provide air support and a K-9 unit was used to track the fleeing subject to a wooded area northwest of the scene.
According to Sgt. Cindy West with the King County Sheriff’s Office SWAT officers were alerted to the location of this subject by a witness report of a man jumping a fence. After setting up a perimeter officers then heard a single gunshot from the woods and moved in to apprehend the subject. They soon learned that this subject was actually a second victim of the shooting who had fled the scene in fear for his life.
According to this victim he was a passenger in the car with Medina-Wong as they were driving eastbound on S. 154th St. An unknown car with an unknown driver was heading towards them in the westbound lane when the vehicle slowed and the occupants opened fire on Medina-Wong and his passenger. Both men jumped out of the car, with the passenger running away towards the woods. Medina-Wong reportedly ran to the sidewalk and collapsed immediately.
The car continued to roll eastbound without a driver, coming to a stop 50 yards away after crossing the intersection at 24th Ave. S.
A King County Sheriff’s Deputy who was the first to arrive on the scene found Medina-Wong with multiple gunshot wounds. He was declared dead shortly after medics arrived on the scene.
A reader of the Highline Times posted in the comments section of our site with pictures that he heard six to seven gunshots and watched from his office building parking lot as Medina-Wong collapsed. This reader also commented on our site seeing a large caliber hand gun on the ground near Medina-Wong.
The road west of the intersection of S. 154th St. and 24th Ave. S. was closed until the early morning hours of Oct. 30th as crime scene investigators scoured the scene for evidence. No suspects have been named at this time and a motive for the shooting is unknown at this time.
Both victims are residents of Federal Way. Anyone with information that can assist investigators is encouraged to contact the King County Sheriff’s Office.
