Eagles snag second-straight title

Federal Way High School's Eagles snatched up their second-straight state Class 4A boys basketball title with a 66-54 victory over Kentwood on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles found themselves trailing by as much as eight at 15-7 in the first quarter and still trailed by seven at 25-18 in the second before closing the halftime margin to four at 29-25.
They were down by five at 35-30 with 4:10 to play in the third quarter before grabbing a 44-35 lead on a 14-point run.
Ferron Flavors started off the streak with a pair of free throws at 3:48 before D'jimon Jones buried a two point shot from the field to cut the margin to 35-34 at the 2:59 mark.
An ensuing steal led to a Kentwood foul and two free throws by Marcus Stephens at 2:47 for a sudden 36-35 Eagle led.
The Conquerors then missed at the other end and Jalen McDaniels made the rebound for Federal Way before Christian Jones scored on a pass underneath to make it 38-35 at 2:16.
The surge continued, with Flavors striking for two at 1:32 and Christian Jones at the 40 second mark of the third quarter to make it 42-35 going into the fourth quarter.
Christian Jones opened the final period by scoring on an inside shot at 7:38 for the 44-35 advantage.
Kentwood ended the streak with a 3-point field goal and managed to get back within three at 47-44 before McDaniels made back-to-back baskets for a 51-44 advantage.
Two 3-pointers by Flavors helped the Eagles down the stretch, which was also highlighted by a dunk by the 6-foot, 10-inch McDaniels.
McDaniels' score made it 63-50 with 53 seconds to play.
D'jimon Jones iced two free throws at 19.4 seconds and McDaniels hit one of two at the 10-second mark to round out the Federal Way scoring.
