17-year-old shot near Evergreen High School
Officers from both the King County Sheriff’s Office and the Burien Police Department rushed to the intersection of Ambaum Boulevard S.W. and S.W. 116th Street on May 19 after reports of shots being fired. Police arrived to the intersection just after 12:15 a.m. to find a 17-year-old boy who had been shot in the chest outside of an apartment complex near Evergreen High School and Cascade Middle School. The boy was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Police are now looking for two Hispanic men who were seen fleeing the scene in a silver or gray 2000s sedan. Police used K9 units to search the area and though shell casings were found nearby, no suspects were found. Because of the victim’s minor status, further details have yet to be released. 

Des Moines man shot in online date ambush
A Des Moines man was shot after arriving to what he believed to be a late night online date. The shooting took place just after 1:15 a.m. on May 16 when the victim arrived to the 24400 block of 25th Avenue S. in Des Moines with his cousin who had offered to give him a ride. The victim believed he was meeting a woman he had been talking to online. When the two men arrived at the given address and met the woman, a man jumped out of the bushes, shot the victim in the chest, and fled with the woman in the cousin’s car. The victim was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries. The cousin was not injured but police are now searching for his Silver 2013 Chevy Malibu with a temporary plate in the rear window. The shooter is described as a black male in his late teens that is around 5’8” and wearing all black clothing. The female was described as blond and in her late teens or early 20s. No further information about the victim has been released. 

Escaped con arrest in SeaTac
Edward Porta was arrested by officers from the King County Sheriff’s Office Wed., May 25, after a tip led to the discovery that he was in the area. Porta escaped from a federal prison in Virginia in 2008 where he had been serving a 38-month sentence for fraud and related charges. He was discovered to be at a SeaTac motel under a false name after a tip came in alerting authorities that he may be renting a room. Porta was arrested without incident after deputies lured him out by claiming there was an issue with his room. It is unclear if Porta will face additional charges for the escape or why and how long he was in the SeaTac area. Federal marshals took possession of Porta the day following the arrest.
