Officials investigate single locomotive derailment in Tukwila
235 Amtrak riders traveling north between Portland and Seattle were delayed just after noon on June 26 after a derailment in Tukwila. According to Amtrak officials, the train was traveling at 5 miles per hour or less as it passed through Tukwila. Upon examination of the derailment, emergency responders found that no fuel was lost and that the derailment was limited to the single lead locomotive. Passengers were transported to King Street Station in Seattle via bus. At time of publication, investigators have yet to determine the cause of the derailment. No passengers or crew reported injuries as a result of the derailment. 

Bystanders rescue 12-year-old girl at SeaTac’s Angle Lake
Emergency responders rushed to SeaTac’s Angle Lake just before 3 p.m. on June 29 after multiple people dialed 911 and reported a unconscious girl found in the water. According to witnesses, the girl was seen floating facedown in the water. Multiple people rushed out to the girl and brought her ashore where someone began performing CPR. Medics arrived to find the girl blue in the face and without a pulse. They were able to get her heart beating again and rushed her to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Medics credited Jason Queirolo for not hesitating to perform the CPR that continued to get oxygen to the girl’s brain until medics arrived to apply more advanced care. The 12-year-old girl was admitted to Harborview in critical condition. The accident took place at a time where park-goers are permitted to swim at their own risk. Lifeguards are not stationed at the lake until July 1. 

Rocks used in attempted pawn shop break-in
Police were called to the Cash America Pawn near the intersection of S.W. 154th Street and 1st Avenue S. in Burien after employees arrived to the pawn shop to find that someone had attempted to break in. The incident took place on June 24. Police arrived to the scene to find that rocks had been used to bash the glass doors at the entrance to the pawn shop. Because the doors were made of laminated glass, the vandals were unable to make more than small holes in the door despite a considerable effort. Significant damage was also done to the building around the doors.
