Two women were shot in Burien during 4th of July celebrations. The shooting took place just after 11:30 p.m. when a group of people were lighting off fireworks near the intersection of 1st Avenue S. and S. 112th Street and noticed a car driving erratically in their direction. According to the police, when the car suddenly stopped near the group, one of the men lighting off fireworks approached the car yelling that the driver needed to stop driving so recklessly. At that point a number of people got out of the car and began yelling at the man from the group. They then got back into the car and drove away before turning around and passing the group again. Moments later screams rang out and two women from the group lighting off fireworks realized they had been hit. One woman, 24, was pregnant and realized she had been shot in the back. The second woman was the first victim’s 48-year-old mother and she was shot in the foot.

Witnesses told police that initially no one even realized that there were shots fired because no one saw a shooter and gunshots sounded like fireworks. Witnesses estimated that 6 to 8 shots were fired. Emergency responders rushed the 24-year-old pregnant woman to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The woman and her baby are expected to survive. The second victim with the bullet wound in her foot was taken to Highline Medical Center and is also expected to survive. Police are now investigating the vehicle in connection to the shooting and are asking anyone with information possible pertaining to contact the King County Sheriff’s Department. 

Man found shot dead in stolen car in SeaTac
A man was found dead in a car in SeaTac after police discovered the vehicle had been stolen. The discovery came on July 6 in the parking lot of the Angle Lake Court senior housing complex after residents became suspicious of a vehicle they did not recognize parked in the lot with a door partially ajar and the sunroof open while it was raining. A passing police officer ran the plates and discovered it had been reported stolen in Seattle the week prior. Upon further investigation, police found a man slumped over in the driver’s seat who had apparently died from a single gunshot wound. Police are now investigating the death and the car theft.

Wanted man found passed out in roadway in Burien
Police arrived to the intersection of S. 120th Street and Occidental Avenue S. just before midnight on June 28 after numerous reports of a man lying in the roadway. A man was found in the middle of the road who appeared to be passed out from alcohol abuse. Police ran his identification and discovered the man was wanted for a misdemeanor DUI warrant in Burien. The man was taken into custody and treated.
