"Play like a kid." This is what co-owner Emily Uebelacker told me coming to crossfit is like at her gym she owns with her husband Corey. Renascent Crossfit is their business that is located at 234 SW 153rd and has been running strong for over a year and a half. If you are like me, when you think of crossfit you think heavy lifting, big muscles, and throwing a tire or two around. But when I asked Emily about my perceptions she said that, "It's actually accessible to all people and all fitness levels. We scale it back to where people are physically." She also told me that people are surprised by how fun crossfit can be. When I talked to Corey about owning their own gym he said, "I love helping people become a better versions of themselves and do things they never thought they could do." If you look at their Facebook business page you read that they are a "...Gym that is dedicated to serving our clients and community well. Everyone is welcome! We want to help you improve your life!" I would agree with this. I have experienced several workouts at their gym and not only felt very welcome, but felt that all of their coaches and class participants were extremely supportive and encouraging. And trust me I am not strong and I didn't throw any tires! Take this Facebook review as even more proof that what's in the Crossfit pudding is worth exploring.
"I have been doing crossfit almost 3 years, Corey has been my coach for about half of that. Corey really has a deep passion for crossfit, weightlifting and helping anyone and everyone to achieve their fitness goals. Corey studies movements, researches new wods, does the wods he programs and really focuses on each member. Workouts are challenging for all levels, regardless of if you are a seasoned crossfit athlete or just starting out, he will find a way to challenge you. The gym community is welcoming, friendly, and respectful of others abilities, we all struggle, embrace it. Childcare is offered at the 930am class 6 days a week. They offers supplements and fitaid. If you want a fun yet serious crossfit exp, come check it out." ~Thom Truitt
After I explored one of our local fitness gym options, I soon ran into LBJ Adventures that is owned by another local Burien woman named Carrie Johnson.
LBJ stands for "Lilly Baldwin Johnson" which Carrie told me is the 3 last names of her husband, her daughter, and herself.
