Shyla Grace is a gymnastics star, attending 11th grade at Tyee High School.
Her coach Alison Thomas said Grace maintains a commitment to gymnastics, while still achieving a 3.67 GPA, playing in the school band and performing in her church's orchestra.
"Shyla is always hardworking and respectful," Thomas said. "Her efforts have led her to acquire several new skills this year, such as a front handspring vault and a cartwheel on the beam. She has placed in numerous events during the dual meet season."
Grace said that as a student-athlete, she had to learn to balance school, athletics and family. "You also have to have confidence and never doubt yourself or your ability to succeed," she said.
In addition, Grace is part of the "We Love You Foundation" at her church. "We do street cleanups in our community, blood drives and visit senior centers," she said. "It is part of world-wide organization that also helps with oil spill cleanups and natural disaster relief efforts."
Grace plans to head to university after graduation from high school -- and hopes to work in coding or software design. She is interested in technology and biology.
