Tyler Goodspeed of Highline High School slowed down by only one hundredth of a second from his winning 50-yard freestyle preliminary time the night before, but wound up third in the finals of the state Class 2A boys swimming and diving meet Saturday.
Goodspeed churned the waters of the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way to a time of 21.66 seconds after leading the field with his 21.65 the day before.
The senior took second in the 50 free finals as a junior last winter.
Goodspeed added a fifth place finish in the 100 free Saturday, posting a time of 47.92.
Tyee sophomore Andy Phan competed in the same 2A meet, taking 11th place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.47. He also finished 19th in the 200 individual medley prelims the day before in 2:14.97 to just miss the consolation finals.
Class 4A
Mount Rainier sophomore diver Brett Jenkins and the Kennedy Catholic 200 free relay team highlighted the local Class 4A performances with 10th place finishes Saturday.
Jenkins racked up a total score of 343.60 points over two days and 11 dives.
The Lancers posted a time of 1:29.63 in taking second in the consolation finals for 10th place overall.
Kennedy also took 11th place in the 200 medley relay in 1:39.75 and 15th in the 400 free relay in 3:20.63.
Kennedy senior Jack Fenster captured 15th place overall competing in the 50 free consolation finals with his 22.34 effort.
