Highline cut down Woodland by a 3-1 score as the state Class 2A boys soccer playoffs opened Tuesday.
The Pirates ride the victory at Highline Memorial Stadium into the state quarterfinals and will play the winner of Wednesday’s match between Fife and Bellingham on Friday or Saturday. The Fife or Bellingham winner will be the host team.
At stake is a berth into the 2A state semifinals to take place Friday, May 25 at Sunset Chevrolet Stadium in Sumner. The finals take place the next day at the same site.
Fastpitch softball
West Seattle finds its back to the wall again in the Sea-King District Class 3A fastpitch softball tournament after taking a 4-0 loss at the hands of Metro League champion Bainbridge on Tuesday.
The Wildcats will return to their home field at the Southwest Athletic Complex next to Chief Sealth to play Juanita in a 7 p.m. loser-out game Thursday.
Seattle Christian, meanwhile, saw its season end with a 7-1 loss at Klahowya in a pigtail playoff game Tuesday.
