To the editor:
So The Great One has now declared that he is in Lock-step with the Gun Lobby by spewing the usual rhetoric that, if the Pittsburgh synagogue had been better protected, it would have turned out better. There are now about 5.7 million Jews in the US alone, 3727 synagogues. So we just need to fortify almost 4000 synagogues? What about the mosques and Christian churches? Schools and malls? Sporting events and supermarkets? Nail salons and teriyaki places? Trump says that something needs be done. Turning the facets of our daily lives into fortresses is not the answer! What about funding for Anger Management Classes and Mental Health clinics? Stop the Gun Worship in this country! A great step would be to reinstate the Assault Weapons ban which we had for 10 years until Bush let it expire. Will this stop all shootings? I just don’t know but that is besides the point! Why does a private person, not associated with the military or law enforcement, need an assault weapon? And the 2nd Amendment does not give anyone the right to own one, either!

Being factual, the 10-year Clinton assault weapons ban produced near zero positive effect, likely the reason Congress let it expire. Mr. Gooding thinks it should be reinstated and admits "Will this stop all shootings. I just don't know, but that is beside the point!" Surely, one should not let facts get in the way, especially when interpreting the 2nd Amendment. Bob F., Normandy Park
